Captain Devin with speckled trout caught on sparkle beetle

Hi, I'm Captain Devin! Would you like to subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog?

Let's stay in touch

Subscribe to my email list  to know when a new guide, video or fishing trip goes live.

No spammy BS, just the good stuff that actually helps you catch fish.

I respect your privacy, and promise not to sell your email, spam your inbox or do anything to break your trust.

Why should you subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog™?

Because I know how to catch fish, and have done so across Louisiana's coast. The knowledge I use to that end is what I share here, and you want to have that knowledge whenever I publish it.

That's right, I've caught speckled trout, redfish and more from Slidell to Venice to Big Lake. That's a lot of coastline, and the reason I've been able to navigate those areas and find biting fish is because I've mastered a process that can be applied anywhere those fish swim.

Let me show you how to fill the box!

So whenever I identify a new pattern, technique or valuable fishing tackle, it is here on this website where I share it. You will want to subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog™ to be sure that you know when that fishing tip goes live!

You won't find it on social media...

I do not share my content on social media, at least not anymore. Some time ago I deleted all of my social media and this blog post explains why. Simply put, the kind of in-depth content that I create isn't formatted for popular platforms like TikTok, Instagram or Facebook. The best way I can deliver what I know is using this website, and that's why you should subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog™.

And I don't mean to take anything away from the talented content creators on social media platforms, it's just that a 10-30 second video clip cannot possibly compete with the detailed and deep content you'll find here. That's why I still use a website.

I've been doing this for a long time...

Whether it's fishing for fun, filming videos, writing articles for popular magazines, tagging fish, guiding fishing clients in the marsh, competing in tournaments — you name it — I've practically done it all and have been doing so for a long time. I got started fishing in the marsh under the tutelage of my wonderful father. While we pretty much just fished the same area out of what's now called Hopedale Marina, it was there I really got my baseline for inshore fishing.

Hey Dad, thanks for taking me fishing when I was a kid!

I kept that momentum into adulthood, inheriting a small aluminum boat with a trusty two-stroke outboard, fishing my old stomping grounds and eventually branching out to the rest of Louisiana. That's right: wherever it is you cast a line today, chances are pretty good that I've been there and caught fish. The insight I have to your area could be valuable to you, and that's just another reason why you want to subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog™.

I still have that old boat and use it for sight fishing redfish, but today I mostly run my bass boat because it's faster and more advanced for the style of fishing that I enjoy. But I've also ran just about every other kind of boat out there, ranging from airboats to bay boats to surface drives. I have a lot of experience!

Running swamp tours in Westwego was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot there that made me an overall better boat captain.

But what if you don't want to give out your email address?

This is a legitimate concern that folks here in the 21st century have: too often they give out their email address to whatever vendor on the Internet, then they never stop hearing from them, even after they've unsubscribed. It is so damn annoying. Well, I've experienced this, too! And I hate it, too!

That's why I promise to never give out your email, allow it to be scanned by artificial intelligence or used by third parties. Every email I send out is typed up by me by hand and nobody, not a machine or a person, is allowed to see my email list. This has been my modus operandi since 2012 and it's worked out amazingly well, amassing tens of thousands of email subscribers who are happy with what I send them every week.

Consider Using An Email Alias

I recommend using an email alias service such as Proton Mail, DuckDuckGo, SimpleLogin or Addy.io. The way it works is that it will create a unique email alias for each service you use. That email alias forwards to your actual email address. When you are done with that service you can delete the alias and that company can no longer contact you.

I have dozens of email aliases that I use for everything and it's a great way to keep my inbox devoid of annoying emails I don't want anymore. Many people who subscribe to Louisiana Fishing Blog™ use an email alias and I applaud them for taking their privacy seriously!

While I take my promise seriously, I think it's best for you to have the power over who can contact you and I suggest you consider one of the above services. Almost all of them are free. Paid plans are cheap and valuable. But I do have some additional alternatives for you!

Subscribe on YouTube

While I don't use social media, I do use YouTube. I view it as being more a video library than an algorithmically curated content feed like TikTok or Facebook. YouTube has been good to me and good to my followers, so I still use it.

I have two channels, one for fishing trips and another for fishing tips. Find Louisiana Fishing Blog on YouTube here and Captain Devin Fishing here.
